The new runway at the Brisbane Airport is a marvellous engineering feat that had its official opening on the 12th of July, 2020. Planning for the runway took 5 decades with construction finally starting in 2012, and it is Australia’s best runway system of date. The new runway is a vital piece of Brisbane infrastructure and will help propel the city and the whole nation forward.
With a new runway comes new airlines, destinations and flight times – offering Brisbane locals and tourists more options. It is predicted that by the year 2035 the runway will lead to 7,800 new jobs and contribute an additional 5 billion AUD to the region. This can greatly improve Brisbane and add to what it has to offer.
However, with the COVID-19 pandemic plans had to change immediately, the opening ceremony and festivities were cancelled. The team behind the project quickly sprung into action ensuring the safety of staff and making sure construction did not come to a halt. All work was done while practising social distancing and other COVID-19 health precautions.
